In honor of public service and lifetime contributions to Canadian society.

Awarded for civic leadership in preserving trees and urban greenery.

Canada 125 Medal (1992)

Awarded for her work to preserve the environment and advocate for sustainable communities

North Vancouver Distinguished Civic Award

Recognizing her athletic achievements and community contribution in North Vancouver.

Career Highlights

Valerie’s recognition is not limited to formal awards. She has led and contributed to a number of initiatives and milestones that represent her personal and professional legacy.

Student Civic Engagement

Under her guidance, Grade 5 students presented briefs at the University of British Columbia Endowment Lands hearings, contributing to the creation of Pacific Spirit Park.

Environmental Legislation

In Canada and internationally, Valerie advocated for environmental protection (Sweden, 1991).

Community Legacy Projects

Founded the Harry Jerome Commemorative Society, leading to the erection of his statue in Stanley Park (sculpted by Jack Harman)

Public Infrastructure Naming

Advocated for and helped rename the West Vancouver Secondary School track to the Harry Jerome Oval and Harry Jerome Recreation Centre in North Vancouver.

Commemorative Benches

Honored with benches bearing her name at Stanley Park and at Sir Wilfrid Laurier School in Vancouver.
